Clear fused quartz for quartz wafers

Fused Quartz Optical Properties

The type of manufacturing method and the raw materials used dictate the final properties of the fused quartz produced. The degree of transparency reflects the material purity. The UV cutoff ranges from about 155 to 175 nm for fused quartz, and is an indicator of material purity. In the IR range, the infrared transmission extends to approximately 4 micrometers with little absorption at 2.73 micrometers (the water band). This means that the quartz is electrically fused, rather than flame fused (or "wet" quartz).

GE Clear Fused Quartz

GE 124 clear fused quartz, for quartz wafers and substrates, is produced from silica sand by electric fusion and therefore has a UV cutoff for 1mm thickness at <160 nm, a slight absorption at 245 nm and no appreciable absorption at 2.73 micrometers due to hydroxyl ions. Due to limited availability of this material, in many applications, Fused Silica can be substituted. The main differences are that Fused Quartz has much lower OH content (>100ppm) and Fused Silica transmits better in the UV range.

Fused Quartz Wafers and Substrates
Wafer and substrates can be processed as large as 12" square or 12" diameter with almost perfect surface finish of >10/5 or 5-10 Angstroms. Due to limited availability, Valley does not currently stock GE124, however we can source the raw material, or process customer supplied material. Standard sizes are 2" diameter, 3" diameter, 100mm diameter, 125mm diameter, 150mm diameter, 200mm diameter and 300mm diameter. Other sizes and squares can also be processed. Thicknesses range from ultra-thin < 100um to 250um, 500um, 1mm, 1.5mm, 2mm and up. Custom thicknesses and sizes are also available.
